I am an Art Psychotherapist, a Somatic Intimacy Coach and Bodywork practitioner, a Certified Sexological Bodyworker and a Somatic Sex Educator. I originated Body Poem™. I paint, and I write.

I have been facilitating people inhabiting new ways of being for over forty years, learning and updating my practice, informed by leading neuropsychoanalytic research alongside listening closely to my clients and to practitioners in training.

In the process of living, we naturally update our understanding as we discover new aspects where hidden perspectives now illuminate more of the picture — we are more empowered to make more congruent decisions in our lives with more of the picture. This supports trusting our confident spontaneity, and co-creating relationships that open our hearts again to gratitude.

I work with individuals and couples on what happens in intimate life when a body has been managed for a long time — when something that was meant to be lived in has quietly become somewhere to cope. Much of it is about the return of feeling, and about learning to say what you want and be met either way.

I co-direct the professional training programmes at the Relational Harmony Institute with Dr Phoebe Garland: years one and two, certifying Somatic Intimacy Coaches and Bodywork practitioners; a training in Body Poem™ facilitation; and a two-year professional supervision programme.

Much of what I teach about power came from training with Dr Cedar Barstow and the Right Use of Power Institute, over a year-long programme that is now part of everything we run. It is where the Empowering Feedback and Repair work began.

What the work rests on

The Wheel of Consent sits underneath everything, because it keeps asking the one question that matters in an intimate room: who asked for it, and who is it for?

Alongside it: attachment, the neurobiology of threat and of care, Body Focusing, Clean Language, Playback Theatre, and the plain observation that a frightened body cannot learn whatever anyone teaches it.

When something beautiful is happening, it can be very hard to be the one who stops it, and I have witnessed how rarely anybody does. So the structures we work with are there to make changing your mind an ordinary thing rather than an interruption — the frame held steadily, what is about to happen named before it happens, the pause already there rather than something you have to ask for. Not because the body is a risk, but so that by the time you are out in deeper water, turning back is something you already know how to do.

Ethics

Our practitioners are trained to invite feedback and to offer a repair process whenever there has been an unintended impact. If you have worked with one of them and something did not sit right, you are welcome to say so — by email to home@relationalharmony.institute, or by arranging a speaking-up session. A successful repair can be profoundly healing, and it deepens trust.
